On July 7th, 2021, we welcomed the Academy Programme’s very first guest speaker for our session on Pre-diabetes in Children, Dr. Paulina Pérez-Duarte Mendiola. With a background in Paediatric Medicine, Medical Anthropology, and public speaking, Dr. Pérez-Duarte Mendiola currently works as the Director of Development at Pediatric Potential Inc.
Dr. Pérez-Duarte Mendiola introduced participants to the topic of Pre-diabetes in children by speaking about her first hand experience as a rural doctor in Mexico. Throughout her presentation, students were engaged and participated in interactive exercises followed by a discussion over the topic of this week’s session.
This session provided participants with an in-depth knowledge of the topic of Pre-diabetes in Children. Dr. Pérez-Duarte Mendiola’s approach to the topic encouraged real-world and collaborative thinking on what Pre-diabetes in children means on a global scale and the ways the global community can address this healthcare concern.
The UK Model WHO greatly appreciates Dr. Pérez-Duarte Mendiola for discussing her research and experiences with this year’s UK Model WHO Academy Programme.
