The Academy’s third session saw the two tracks split into delegates and chairs. Those on the delegate track were briefed on how to write position papers as well as the rules of procedure including setting the agenda and participating in a moderated caucus.
Participants were subsequently divided into three breakout rooms and practiced their new learnings through simulation moderated caucus based on the topic discussed in last week’s Academy Speaker Session, ‘Prediabetes in children’. The breakout rooms were Chaired by Neha Khanderia UK Model WHO Training Director, Marine Delgrange UK Model WHO President and Brian Wong UK Model WHO Founder and Chair of the Board of Trustees. It was great to see delegates apply their understanding on the topic of ‘Prediabetes in children’, and it was a very productive simulation training session enjoyed by all! A special mention is given to the delegates representing China, Malaysia and Tanzania for their engagement in this activity.
Those on the chair track were guided by UK Model WHO’s current Chapter’s Director, Ivan Zhelyazkov. Chair’s learnt about the role of the Dais, virtual chairing and took a detailed look at the rules of procedure. The session concluded with a mock chairing simulation where participants were able to test their understanding of the rules of procedure. Participants brought a great deal of enthusiasm to the activity with many showing great potential.
At the end of the delegate track session, participants were tasked with creating a Position Paper on the theme of ‘Women’s Health’ ahead of the next simulation training session using their new skills and understanding. Their research and drafting will be complemented by next week’s speaker session on Women’s Health with a focus on Gender Based Violence, Sexual Violence and Sexual Health.
We look forward to welcoming all Academy Programme participants at the next session!
