Academy participants were presented on the topic of ‘Women’s Health’ this week. The session explored the social and health inequities that result in lower quality of life for women, with a particular focus on sexual health and gender-based violence.
We were delighted to be joined by our two keynote speakers – Cianne Jones and Mukyala Zaitun – CEO and project manager at Women in Leadership (WIL).
Mukyala and Cianne spoke about their experiences and ongoing work WIL, an NGO based in rural Eastern Uganda. WIL operates to empower women and girls whilst dismantling inequalities in education, income and access to quality health services.
We learnt about their innovative initiative, ‘My Body My Rights’, a community-based outreach programme that integrates mobile messaging to inform women and girls in rural villages of contraceptive and family planning services.
Participants were inspired by the impact of the project through hearing of individual user testimonies and understanding the wider cultural context in which WIL works to inform the public with evidence-based outreach.
